RIO DE JANEIRO
GAY TRAVEL GUIDE 2025
⚠️ Outdoor Cruising in Rio: What You Need to Know
First things first: Rio de Janeiro is not Disneyland. It’s a vibrant, exciting city—but one where common sense and a bit of caution go a long way. So let’s start with the basics:
🛑 Safety First
While violent incidents are rare, theft can happen. Most of the time, if someone tries to rob you and you don’t resist, things will be fine. Never fight back—your safety is more important than your belongings. If you’re heading out for an outdoor cruising adventure, leave your phone at home or at your accommodation. Bring just enough cash for a taxi ride back, and consider using Uber to get there safely.

🌴 OUTDOOR GAY CRUISING SPOTS IN RIO 2025
These places are popular among locals and visitors alike for discreet encounters. As always, be respectful, discreet, and safe. Most of these places are best visited in the late afternoon or after dark. Let’s get into it:
🛹 Arpoador Park – Skate Slope
📍 Exact location
Located in Garota de Ipanema Park, Arpoador. Enter through the beach entrance and walk up the ramp—behind the skate slope, you’ll often find guys hanging out in the bushes. It’s busiest in the late afternoons, especially on sunny days. The park officially closes at 7PM.
🌅 Pedra do Arpoador
📍Exact location
This iconic rock at the end of Ipanema Beach is known for its stunning sunsets—and after dark, for its cruising scene. It gained viral fame in 2025 after a New Year’s Eve incident referred to as the “Surubão do Arpoador.” Since then, police presence has supposedly increased, but in practice, it remains a popular spot.
🌳 Aterro do Flamengo
Aterro do Flamengo is where locals actually meet — while most tourists stick to Ipanema, this is where real connections happen.
A massive park stretching through Flamengo, Botafogo, Glória, and Catete. During the day, it’s filled with joggers, skaters, and families. After dark, things change. The busiest cruising area is in the wooded section near the Assador Rio’s parking lot. Peak action usually happens between 8 and 11 p.m. After 11 p.m., it’s important to stay more alert, as the area becomes riskier and there’s a higher chance of muggings.
🏖️ Praia de Abricó (Nudist Beach)
📍 Exact location
Rio’s only official nude beach is about an hour from the South Zone, but it’s worth the trip.
Super chill, incredibly beautiful, and very gay-friendly—especially on the left side of the beach (facing the ocean).
Expect a flirty atmosphere and some discreet fun around the rocks at sunset. Drinks are available at beach kiosks.
🌊 Praia da Reserva
📍 Exact location
Located further west, this beach is quieter and more secluded—ideal for late-night fun. Park your car or set your GPS to Praia da Reserva – Girassol, Ilha 3. Once you arrive, you’ll recognize the spot by the movement of the guys nearby.
Cruising starts after dark, with peak times on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, especially following sunny days.
A good second stop after a day at Abricó.
🌆 Rua do Leite (for the Hardcore)
📍 Exact location
This one’s intense. Known as "Milk Street", it’s in North Rio, a much rougher part of town.
The danger level here is significantly higher than in the South Zone.
Cruising starts late (after 10PM).
Go only if you’re very experienced and cautious.
